Another road trip!
Today we head to Old Town Alexandria.
Anita says I will enjoy it greatly.
Anita and I have 4 eyeballs between us but we seem to see the world through just one so I am sure I will agree with her once I see this place.
First thing we do is get on the tourist bus. The hop-on, hop-off bus is just like Sean Connery: old and gorgeous! This cutesy, ancient looking bus takes you up and down OTA and, as usual, is a great way to start things off and shortlist what you want to explore more of.
So much to see in such a tiny little place – like when you magnify sand grains 🙂
New look! It’s called ‘The Confused Hermaphrodite’.
This is an anchor made in 1880, located right next to the harbor.
Ahhhh, the things I do for Princess Anita…
My lovely Anita practicing her rookie flirting skills next to the harbor with Statue Man. Statue Man has a crush on himself. Turn off!! Goodbye Statue Man, enjoy hanging with your solo self in a forever kind of way and be grateful that you don’t know what you are missing!
Water = calmness
Sweet smells of the past. Cobblestones always manage to cosy up any road and take me way back in time. I can almost see the horse-drawn carriages and ladies in their corseted dresses and lacy umbrellas, escorted by men with Rhett Butler mustaches. It’s nice here in my head. It’s also very nice here in this little town and I am enjoying all the small little visual details scattered everywhere.
Reminds me of my childhood *sigh*. Anyone remember what these are for?
Proof that sisters can be from many different mothers, continents, backgrounds and planets. Anita makes me feel I am not the only alien around and I am eternally grateful for her bright light and wise guidance always.
What you think lies ahead and what really lies ahead is never the same thing… which is nice if you like surprises. Enter my favorite line again: If you want to make God laugh, tell him your future plans. God is always rather kind to me, I have given him lots of hearty laughs. Tit for tat folks.
Ice-cream! YUM to Pops, our ice-cream provider of the day. As cute and tasty as it looks on the outside. This goes right on top of the list of things to do here.
Just outside what we thought was a lingerie shop which turned out to be a ‘couples boutique’. *Not* used to seeing the strange ‘toys’ they have in there! Anita and I were giggling like silly teenagers and the store clerk looked like she had just bit lemon the whole time.
This reminded me of my friend Anthony’s profile picture. Here they are, see if you agree.
I think Anthony’s infinitely cuter. You?
He also has me in regular fits of laughter all the way from London with his status updates.
“You know you are good at your job when you can source an antique fireplace at very specific dimensions and have it delivered to its destination all within an hour. You know you are bad at your job when you have to do the above because you forgot to do it 2 weeks ago.”
Thanks for all the giggles darling (heart) 🙂
The old and the new happily co-exist here. Browsing through the funky shops in OTA.
Dinner time! We meet at The Majestic whose roots date back to 1932. We are going to meet Riz.
Riz has the most amazing stories, memory and sense of humor. He also has the most amazing heart, soul and sense of integrity. Makes him a very rare type of human being. Even if I didn’t have any time at all, I would add one more hour to the existing 24 to make time for him. He has no such problems: judging from the things he is able to get done in one day, all while traveling all over the world, I figure his days have about 34 hours in them. Lucky…
I selfishly enjoy having all my favorite peeps here in one place yet again.
I knew what vegetarians and vegans were but did not know about pescetarians – that was a new word. Wonder if they have a word for someone who eats everything except celery… Anyway, if they do let me know coz that’s what I am.
Oh, and the food was delish!! Many thumbs up for The Majestic – no wonder they have stood the test of time as good things always do.
A little stroll brings us ice-cream and an impromptu opera show.
The little harbor area turns into a very pleasant place for a stroll in the evenings for family-friendly fun.
Old Town Alexandria: you are easy-going, romantic, fun and very pleasant on the eye. You’d actually make a very nice singles ad. But meanwhile we enjoyed your charms on a more suburban level 🙂
