My lovely friend Lulu and her entourage were to fly in from San Diego and meet me in Vegas but they couldn’t make it for a really wonderful reasonā¦ which I am not going to share with you š
My friend Robert who actually lives in Vegas is going to have to act as tourist guide to 1 girl instead of 4 and he isn’t complaining – how nice!
Rob and I go back about 20 years and I haven’t seen him in quite a few of them by now. He has always been like a treasure trove for incredible stories which he can articulate so well that it’s almost as titillating as reading a book! I am one of those reader girls and I can’t waiiiiittttt!!!
Anita insists on driving me to the airport and I insist that she save her days off for something more fun when I return.
Supershuttle
I book the Supershuttle service. This is one gem of a service which you can book at very reasonable prices ($36 in my case for a 45 minute drive to the airport). The vans are in pretty good shape and are small and cosy. You can even track the location of where your bus is online.
Love technology – we are all so omniscient now, aren’t we?
And don’t go stalking Anita – she has already moved to her wonderful new house. (Quite fun being backlogged on this blog, interesting to see how life has changed between then and now.)
It’s easy to say ‘bye’ when you know you will be saying ‘hi’ again very soon. G’ bye Anny and thanks for putting absolutely everything that I love on the menu for us! These feet have their prints all over the whole of Washington DC (as well as all over its neighbors) YAY! Here’s to many more adventures together my soul-sister!
Southwest Airlines
Off I go on Southwest Airlines.
My first intro into their weird queuing system:
You have to check in online to get a good spot in the queue.
You have to get a good spot on the queue to get on board and pick the seat you wish to sit in – no seat numbers. So always check in online as early as possible.
Check my earlier post on my humble tips and tricks for Ā getting flight fare deals and other flight tips and tricksĀ here.
Message from my fellow aliens.
Says ‘peace on you silly humans’. (If you haven’t been praying for peace, now is as good a time as any – you can stop reading this amazing piece of literature, close your eyes and say a small prayer now š )
I was thinking how sweet it was of Vegas to welcome me with a nice sunsetā¦ only to find out that the whole mountain is on fire and thus the orange glow. Oh well, that still worked regardless.
My first time in Vegas and it’s all true!
Slot machines everywhere, including the airport, people with dazed expressions, staring hypnotized into the machinesā¦ a little like everyone else does into their mobilesā¦ We must look like an earthful (new word) of zombies to our visiting aliens.
I had heard that you never know if it is day or night and the casinos are designed to eliminate all sense of time so you lose your sense of time and, well, all your sense and sensibility and thus your money, in the process š
Look, Eiffel Tower!
I wonder when they will make a Burj Khalifa replica.
I get patriotic about my UAE (heart).
She’s also here to join the party.
Not sure if I should disclose the fact that I didn’t walk down this road , didn’t have a single glass of alcohol and didn’t go to those pool parties and swim in my own vomitā¦ (Not sure if this makes me cool or uncool.)
My Vegas was a different kind of beautiful.
More on that later.
