Always warms me up inside to see Gandhi – makes me smile everytime I pay for something. Another reason for my smiling would also be the ample opportunity I had at bargaining, satisfying my relentless inner-haggler. I subcontracted my haggling services to Feyza quite a few times that day – she has been living in haggle-free Switzerland too long!
Would say sights and sounds but will instead say colors.
Pit-stop for ice-cream.
People seem to have transferred here directly from the 60’s.
They said the weather is usually slightly on the stifling side but that it is our good luck how breezy and pleasant it is. I always seem to have the good-weather fairy on my side: love you fairy (wink)!
Cafe Looda at the Anjuna Market. We finally catch up with Selim and Angelica. So nice to see them again in same-same but different circumstances. They are nearing the end of their annual 6 month trip and need to go back to Turkey to work for 6 months.
The band prepares in the background as lovely Feyza and Angelica replenish.
When in Rome have a butter chicken – SUPER tasty!
One band leaves and another begins. Selim and Angelica, who have been here for a few weeks now, tell us the second band is made up of a mixture of Europeans. They play a variety of instruments, a few of which I have never seen before. It is like western music and Indian music fell in love and had music babies and this came out. I was quite impressed but Feyza had different ideas. Her husband, Rene, is quite a successful musician and his album made it on the top 10 Jazz albums of this year so I do listen to her opinions when it comes to music. Check out Rene’s album Cinema Obscura here .
Coming back to the Anjuna Market, here are some tips for what you should be paying:
Taxi: peanuts
Food: peanuts
Shopping: peanuts
Do NOT pay a single nut more than the above.
The same rules apply: do aim to strike a bargain at about a little over half the price they offer. Do the twirl trick prior to achieving it (twirl, walk away).
We got there relatively early in the day and it did take us pretty much the whole day to look at everything, including 2 pit stops for food and drinks. This was a definite highlight of my trip and would recommend this market to everyone.
We are pooped! Lounging on the daybed in what could be considered the ‘lobby’ of the Ashiyana where there is an internet connection.
The ‘lobby’. What a warm and cosy place.
We go to hit the sack.
It is nearing the end of my journey and I am pre-devestated.
This is probably the worst case of ‘idon’twannaleaveIdon’twannaleaveIdon’twannaleave’ I have had this past year!!
Booo…
